The road
to happiness in life is different to everyone. It may be rich out of your mind,
to have a family, to get a promotion. It can be anything. What if I told you
that you can be happy with less than a dollar to your name? Would u believe me?
My great
grandma lived a healthy long life and a lot of it was a struggle. She was born
in Italy, raised in Italy and married in Italy. Her husband grew up in the same
area of Italy. Just after World War II my great grandpa used what little money
he had to come to America to start a new, better life. They could not afford to
send them both at the same time so my great grandma was stuck in Italy. However,
she did not have to wait long. A little less than a year later she had saved
enough to join her husband in America. They started their American lives in
1954. They could not speak English, nor had any special skills to anything
other than labor jobs. They only had each other to keep them going. And that
was all they needed. They had a family to care for, to feed, to clothe. And they
worked themselves to exhaustion to make sure the family was happy. And they
were, because they had each other.
My great
grandfather never quite knew English. He could understand it but could only
speak very broken English. But he was the happiest man I have ever met. Even at
94 years of age he would smile and laugh at just about everything. My great
grandma was the same. Having broken conversations and making jokes in broken English.
They were jolly and happy, but with no money. How? Because they had each other
and because they had a loving family supporting them. They were always smiling.
Even until their final breathes. Both have since passed.
You can
be rich and not have a dime, you can be happy and own nothing, you can smile. If
you have people who care for you or people you care for then true happiness is
closer than you think. We don’t need materialistic things to be happy as long
as we have someone to push us through and fight for then happiness is right
around the corner.
I totally agree with you that we don't need materialistic things to be happy, if you have a loving and caring family than you don't need anyone else.
